Munchkins soccer is designed for our younger children to prepare them for the "big game." Kindergarten children will receive a 1/2 hour training session by a paid trainer followed by a 4v4 on smaller fields without a goalie. The goal is for the kids to have FUN, develop basic soccer skills, and begin to learn the rules of the game. The key is to let the kids just play. They will figure out their own positions as well as when to dribble and when to pass.
We are desperately in need of additional coaches and assistant coaches for our Munchkins. The more parents who come out to help, the more kids who can play. You don’t need to know much about soccer, and MTSC provides you with training and can match you with an "experienced" coach as a mentor for practices. Volunteer on the registration form as a coach or assistant coach. The time commitment is only 2 hours a week (one for the game, and one for the practice).
Game Duration: The game shall consist of two 10--minute quarters separated by a 5-minute halftime period. Each team will get a 30-minute training session with a professional trainer prior to the start of every game.
Participation: While playing, everyone should participate a minimum of 50% of the time
Substitution: Substitutions may be made during dead-ball situations, regardless of possession.
Kick Offs / Kick Ins / Direct and Indirect Kicks / Goal Kicks:
KICK OFF: May be kicked in any direction. You cannot score directly from a kick off. The kick off is an indirect kick.
Kick-Ins: The ball shall be kicked in from sidelines. They players are too young to worry about proper throw-ins.
DIRECT & INDIRECT KICKS: All dead-ball kicks (kick-ins, kick-offs, free kicks) are indirect with the exception of corner kicks. Indirect kicks must only change position before the ball will be considered in play. If a free kick is awarded within five yards of the opposing goal box, the ball will be moved back to five yards from the box. It is the referee’s discretion where the ball will be placed.
GOAL KICKS: May be taken from any point of the goalie arc. All Goal Kicks are indirect kicks. The opposing team must retreat back to the midfield line until the ball is kicked.
Deliberate heading: is not allowed
Five Yard Rule: In all dead-ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player’s goal is closer than five yards, the ball shall be played five yards from the goal box in line with the direction of play prior to the penalty.
Goal Keepers: No Goal Keepers
Off-sides: No Off-sides
Slide Tackling: No Slide Tackling!: If a player is sliding for the ball, contact with any player(s) from the other team is NOT ALLOWED. If a player slides and contact is initiated, a free kick shall be awarded. This does not prevent players from sliding to stop/intercept a ball where contact is not initiated during the slide. Example: a player may slide to save a ball from going out-of-bounds.
Field Dimensions: The playing field is 25 yards long by 20 yards wide.
Goals: 4 feet (height) x 6 feet (width)
Ball: Size 3 ball
Equipment: Shin guards are required
Registered and certified referees are not needed at this level
Since there is no referee, coaches are expected to manage the game environment from the touchline using these standards of play and their best judgement
Together, coaches and parents are expected to create and promote a fun and safe environment for the players
